Installation

DILATOFLEX® : installation and maintenance

DILATOFLEX® expansion joint must be stored, mounted and used with good sense and according to the book on installations equipped with proper security systems. Refer to the instructions delivered with each part.

Storage conditions:

No direct light and, if possible, dim light.
Recommended room temperature +10/+20°C. Temperature below 0°C are only acceptable provided
that the expansion joints are handled after a graduate return to positive temperatures.
Prevent draughts and provide minimum natural ventilation.
Ozone and ozone-generating sources must be kept away from the storage area.
The expansion joint must not come into contact with the following aggressive products or items :
Liquids, grease, acids or bases
sharp items or burning welding or grinding particles.
Avoid stacking the expansion joints insofar as possible to prevent any permanent significant deformation (arch, bead)
rotate stocks to ensure that the oldest products are used first (FIFO)

Installation:

Respect the instructions given in the document delivered with each expansion joint.
Do not paint the rubber part of the expansion joints.
Do not cover expansion joints with insulating material.
Expansion joint must not be exposed to flame or intense heat. Use a fireproof cover if necessary.
Expansion joints have a high electrical insulating effect.
To dissipate static electricity or to earth the piping system, place a stranded wire between the two flanges.

Removal:

Before removing an expansion joint, take care that it is not subjected to residual internal pressure and that dangerous fluids have been drained away

Maintenance:

Expansion joints must be included in a maintenance plan
Expansion joints must be perfectly accessible to facilitate regular checking and potential removal.
An external visual inspection (aspect, rubber elasticity) and flange tightening must be done once a year.
It is advisable to dismount them for internal inspection every three or ten years, depending on the severity of the operating conditions or national regulations.
Generally speaking the expansion joints must be changed regularly depending on their condition and on the hardening of the materials.
