Certified to meet the highest safety requirements.
Applications in the food and beverage industry demand the strictest hygiene and safety standards. The white rubber compound used in Dilatoflex® EPC-grade expansion joints meets stringent regulatory requirements while preserving product integrity throughout the entire process.
Effective and safe food processing with Dilatoflex® expansion joints.

Certified security
Dilatoflex® expansion joints can be used with different products: up to 40°C for dairy oils and fats, and up to 70°C for non-greasy, aqueous or acidic products.
Excellent resistance to temperature and pressure
Although certification for food contact defines specific service limits, Dilatoflex® expansion joints are designed to withstand temperatures up to 95°C and pressures up to 16 bar.
Long lifespan
Designed for durable use, Dilatoflex® expansion joints offer very good resistance to cleaning processes and operational stresses, thus helping to reduce maintenance and extend the life of equipment.
Process reliability
By absorbing vibrations and compensating for thermal expansion, Dilatoflex® expansion joints protect piping systems and equipment, ensuring stable and reliable operation in sensitive processing environments.

Frequently Asked Questions
The recommended elastomer compound for food contact applications is EPC grade. EPC is a white elastomer compound certified for food contact service. The white color helps prevent visual contamination and facilitates the detection of product residues during inspections. For auxiliary lines carrying potable water, DW grade can also be used if the required potable water certification is available.
Dilatoflex® elastomer expansion joints with white EPC elastomer blend are used in a wide range of food and beverage applications requiring hygiene, reliability and control of process conditions. Typical applications include the dairy industry (milk, whey, cream and dairy products), beverage production (water, sodas, juices and alcoholic beverages where regulations permit), and meat and poultry processing facilities. They are also used in sugar production lines, starch manufacturing lines, vegetable oil handling lines and in general food processing applications.
The base elastomer used in the EPC elastomer blend belongs to the same family as materials commonly used in chewing gum formulations. It is certified for food contact applications, and its neutral white color prevents any risk of visual contamination. The temperature range covers -25 to 95°C, beyond the limits defined by certification.
The EPC-grade elastomer compound used in Dilatoflex® expansion joints is designed for hygienic food and beverage applications and offers good resistance to common cleaning processes. Typical cleaning procedures in food applications, such as CIP (Clean-In-Place) systems using approved detergents and disinfectants, can be used within specified temperature and concentration limits. Procedures using potable water, alkaline cleaning solutions (e.g., NaOH), and dilute acidic solutions (e.g., nitric or phosphoric acid) are generally acceptable. However, strong oxidizing agents, aggressive solvents (such as aromatic or chlorinated solvents), and excessive cleaning temperatures should be avoided, as they can cause swelling, hardening, or premature aging of the primary EPC elastomer compound. If in doubt, the chemical compatibility of cleaning agents should be verified with the technical team before use.
Our food contact certification defines two main product categories: The first category includes alcoholic beverages and fatty foods. For these products, the certification limits the service temperature to 40°C. Furthermore, for sizes smaller than DN 100, the flow rate must be at least 1 liter per hour. The second category includes aqueous and acidic, non-alcoholic, and non-fatty food products. For this category, the maximum certified service temperature is 70°C. These certification limits may be lower than the operating limits of the expansion joint itself.
