Chemistry and Pharmacy

Safety, reliability and long life in chemical and pharmaceutical applications.

The chemical and pharmaceutical industries place strict demands on the safety, reliability and durability of piping components. Exposed to aggressive fluids, significant temperature variations and mechanical stresses generated by pumps, compressors and process equipment, these installations leave no room for compromise. Dilatoflex® elastomer expansion joints are designed to meet these requirements: absorb vibrations, compensate for thermal expansions and protect the integrity of installations over the long term.

Dedicated solution for a large number of concentrated acids, strong bases and aggressive chemicals

In-house developed blend for high chemical resistance

YP elastomer grade is based on an in-house developed blend providing increased resistance against concentrated acids such as sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid.

Very good temperature resistance

YP quality expansion joints are suitable for service temperatures up to 100°C. They are commonly used in outdoor installations exposed to intense sunlight and high ambient temperatures.

Robust design for heavy-duty applications

Dilatoflex® expansion joints are commonly used in extended piping networks for the transfer of chemicals. Their increased wall thickness enhances resistance to pressure fluctuations and helps prevent unexpected tears and leaks. In particular the N series available from DN 500 to DN 3000.

Significant axial, lateral and angular compensation

Dilatoflex® expansion joints compensate for significant pipe movements caused by temperature variations or differential settlement. T2 double wave expansion joints, available from DN 250 to DN 450, can absorb up to 60mm of movement in the axial direction and 45mm in the lateral direction.

Applications in chemistry

High-quality elastomer blends provide excellent resistance to a wide range of aggressive media, ensuring reliable operation in demanding chemical environments. This makes Dilatoflex® expansion joints suitable for applications involving acids, solvents and other process fluids commonly used in chemical and pharmaceutical production.

Dilatoflex® expansion joints are also frequently used in fertilizer production and handling, where long exterior pipelines are exposed to chemically aggressive substances and harsh environmental conditions.

YOUR QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Material compatibility is one of the most complex aspects of any chemical application. The behavior of an elastomer depends on a large number of parameters, including the type of fluid, chemical composition, concentration, temperature, pressure, and external service conditions. Due to the high number of interacting factors, it is necessary to contact our sales team to discuss your application-specific requirements.

We offer an expert service for used and replaced expansion joints. In our laboratory, we are able to evaluate the state of the internal reinforcement structure and assess the resistance of the elastomeric mixture to the chemical environment to which it has been exposed. Before any assessment, we require the official Safety Data Sheet (SDS) of the fluid. This document is essential to ensure that the expansion joint can be handled safely and that there is no risk to our employees. Although this service is generally subject to an additional charge, it can provide you with valuable information on the effects of actual service conditions and help optimize maintenance intervals and your preventative maintenance strategies.

The qualities of our expansion joints are defined for specific applications. This strategy is based on our experience. For example, EPDM is often used today as a generic term for rubber. We receive many requests specifying only "EPDM" which, upon further investigation, are found to be incompatible with the fluid in question. We place application and user safety as our highest priority, and this approach helps reduce the risk of material selection errors, which is particularly important in critical applications such as Chemistry.
